You read that correctly. It did NOT take us a billion tries. I know, I'm as shocked as you are.
I recently realized I never updated you after our last attempt at potty training- you know, the games in the hallway and the nakie bums running around. I am happy to say that we have had completely potty-trained girls since mid-September. (I didn't say I was good at this update thing!)
After the first successful day, the girls realized the diapers weren't coming back and that the toilet was not as scary as it looked. They had a few accidents, but they did REALLY well. Seriously, after they realized the diapers were gone for good they stepped up big time. We dealt with a few very frustrating accidents when we weren't home (one at a family members house, and one at a restaurant), but it's been pretty smooth sailing. They were only in pull-ups at night for about a week. They never woke up wet, so we transitioned to underwear at night as well. Soon after they could go regularly, we got rid of the little potties too (because, really, those things are a pain to clean all the time, even with the baggies inside).
After the year-long struggle, it only took a few days... a little frustrating since we tried for so long, but mostly we were relieved to have it be over.
Now these silly girls will run by the bathroom to tell me, very urgently, that they need to go potty. Like they need permission or something. They will also use it as a way to avoid sleeping. They'll tell us they don't need to go potty, but after they lie in bed for about 3 minutes they decide they REALLY need to go... so the games have begun. Whatever. At least they go. They are also in toddler beds now because they were climbing out of their cribs. It's a million times easier to tell them to get back in bed, but just as easy for them to climb out... It was time. They're growing up. *sniffle, sniffle, tear*
I am unfortunately still wiping butts on a daily basis, but it's way better than diapers. AND the girls don't turn 3 until next month! Boom. No nasty three-year-old diapers and we can go anywhere without a diaper bag. Yay for cute purses again!
